TRANSCRIPTS

* New this year, any graduating students applying to a uniiversity in Nova Scotia will be required to enter their Provincial Identification Numner (PIN) when making application. This will allow the univeristy you are making application to access your transcript marks directly. This does not apply to NSCC students, or any students applying to a post secondary institution outside the province of N.S..

Grade 12 students requiring transcripts are asked to sign up in the guidance area or send an e-mail request at least three days in advance to avoid delays. Students are responsible for picking up their own transcripts.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship:The Horatio Alger Association of Canada provides $650,000 annually in need-based scholarship support for deserving students in all Canadian provinces and territories.

Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students in their terminal year of high school with financial need (family income under $65,000) who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, a desire to contribute to society, and a good academic record (65+ Average). Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Valued at $28000: Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards are open to students of all abilities.

To be considered for the Award, applicants must meet be:

  • In good academic standing.
  • Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
  • Students graduating from secondary (high) school or students completing their first year of CÉGEP or students who have completed secondary (high) school
  • Involved in voluntary humanitarian activities (for which they have not been compensated).

IWK Future Health Research and Innovation Scholarship 2017:  To be considered for one of three Future Health Research and Innovation Scholarships valued at $2500, grade 12 students in the Maritimes must intend on continuing their education at a Maritime post-secondary institution (college or university) in a field that will enhance research and/or innovation in health care. One awards will be issued to a student from each province. Students must write an essay (3 pages max, double spaced, 12 point font) demonstrating their interest in research and/or innovation in health care and how it will improve the health and well being of children, women or families in the Maritimes. Students must provide one academic and one character letter of reference. Lastly students must provide their academic stranscripts and have a minimum average of 75% . Assumption Foundation  offers scholarships to graduates that plan on pursuing post-secondary studies.  In order to be eligible for a $1,500 scholarship, a student must have a grade point average of at least 70% for the last completed school year. He/she must be enrolled at a college or university as of September 2017 and be in need of financial assistance to pursue his/her studies. Lorraine-LeBlanc Scholarship ($500)- The scholarship will be awarded based on educational achievement and financial need.
In order to qualify for the Lorraine- LeBlanc Scholarship, you must:
• Have a “LeBlanc” surname;
• Be registered as a full-time student at a college or university in New Brunswick ;
• Demonstrate above average educational achievement during the last year of study; and

The Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone Memorial Entrance Scholarship, a $6,000.00 scholarship available to Nova Scotia students entering their first year of university. The Province established the scholarship in 1991 to honour the life and work of the late Tony Johnstone, a long-time educator and human rights advocate who devoted his life to promoting multicultural understanding and social equality.
 
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must live in Nova Scotia, be graduating from high school and beginning an undergraduate degree program at a Maritime university in the fall. The applicant must also have demonstrated an interest in multiculturalism and human rights.

We would appreciate it if you could print and display the poster in order to bring the scholarship to the attention of your graduating students, and distribute forms to those who request them.  All forms are to be postmarked no later than March 31, 2017 in order for the applicant to be considered for the scholarship.
 

Black Educators Association Bursary :  This is a $500 bursary. To be eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:
• African Nova Scotian (Black) learner - At least one parent to be of African descent
• Resident of Nova Scotia
• Demonstrate financial need
• Continuing studies at Post-Secondary institution (i.e., university, college, trade, school, etc)
• Studying toward first degree or diploma at Canadian post-secondary institution

Craig Huff Urban Forest Memorial Bursary : a bursary available to students in Canada who have demonstrated a strong interest in urban forestry. The bursary will pay the hotel, travel and registration expenses for a full time student to attend the Canadian Urban Forest Conference, held every two years in Canada. This year’s bursary will allow a student to attend the 2016 Canadian Urban Forest Conference in Laval, QC, September 26 – 29th. Wessex Scholarship: The IWK Health Centre and IWK Foundation are pleased to announce that the Wessex Scholarship is open for applications. This scholarship is a $5,000 award and is targeted towards students who will be studying in a healthcare related program at an Atlantic Canadian degree granting institution. Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarships: Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship Program offers both a University as well as an NSCC scholarship.

University: Scholarships valued at $10,000 ($2,500 renewable over four years), are awarded annually to students completing grade 12 at a Nova Scotia high school with the intent to pursue energy-related studies at university. Students applying for the university scholarship must be accepted into an accredited post-secondary institution for studies in business, science or engineering at the bachelor level. Students must be graduating from a Nova Scotia secondary school with a full academic course load in grade 12 and an average mark of 75 percent or B in their final year. Applicants must also demonstrate a record of community involvement, such as volunteer work, sports and other community based activities. Students applying must not be receiving additional scholarship support in excess of $2,500.

NSCC: The program also offers non-renewable $2,500 scholarships for first-year students accepted to eligible energy-related trades and technology programs at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC).
Students applying must demonstrate a record of community involvement such as volunteer work, sports and other community based activities. Applicants must be completing grade 12 at a Nova Scotia high school or be a mature student. A mature student indicates someone who has graduated from high school one or more years ago and is beginning their post-secondary education at NSCC.

Saint Mary’s University and Techsploration Science Award is available again this year. This renewable scholarship valued at $2000 per year is available to Techsploration alumnae and female graduates of Techsploration schools who are enrolled in a Saint Mary’s University Faculty of Science Degree, Technology Degree or Engineering Degree program this fall. The Acadia University and Techsploration Science Award  ($1,000 scholarship) is available for 2016. Construction Association of Nova Scotia Building Futures for Youth Award (NSCC) has been established in support of the Construction Association of Nova Scotia’s 150th Anniversary Industry Campaign. This campaign was launched in recognition of the value of education and the role of the construction sector in the growth of Nova Scotia’s economy.       • Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resources Council Scholarships: Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council offers three scholarships for students who are pursuing post secondary education in tourism and hospitality and culinary. Scholarship candidates will be judged on the following:

        River Hill Players Scholarship: One scholarship valued at $500 will be awarded to a student graduating from Grade 12 at an Inverness County School.

        Eligible candidates must be pursuing studies in Theatre Arts which is defined as: the art of acting or producing plays, people who write, produce or act in plays. For a theatre arts program to qualify it must include a program of studies, which deals with the necessary skills required for staging live productions.

        Scholarship monies will be sent to the post-secondary institution or to the individual upon verification of attendance.A student must apply by the application date on the application form to be eligible. Note: This date may change from year to year.

        A student must accompany his/her application with a letter indicating:

        ◦ Why he/she is pursuing a Theatre Arts program; and

        ◦ Why he/she feels they deserve the scholarship.

        In addition to the application, the applicant must provide a letter of recommendation from an adult who has supervised the applicant in the performing arts. This letter should be in a sealed envelope marked confidential and included in the application package
